Q-clone and Nebula – a match made in heaven

nebula

2000 free q-clone impulses

For all the Acustica audio’s nebula and Waves audio’s Q-clone users out there – you will already know that these are hands down the best software eq’s money can buy – period. They both have pros and cons to using them.

Nebula – wonderful as it is has some real issues.CPU,RAM usage and also the time required to sample hardware. It is highly tweakable based on how the emulations are sampled. Some of the best libraries out there from cdsoundmaster,Analog in the box and Alexb allow one to sweep through the eq just like the real hardware.

Q-clone – wonderful as it sounds you cannot tweak the settings. It is however light on CPU,RAM and samples in seconds.

So the best of both worlds is to use both in your sessions.Load up q-clone capture on a channel that has a digital out and return ( form a digital loop ) and after the q-capture plugin, load an instance of Nebula.Load up whatever you want to sample and using the q-clone plugin to get the snapshot of the eq settings.Done move on to the next track etc – soon enough you can eq your whole mix – capturing the sound of nebula and not suffering the ram or CPU hit.

Simples – good luck and hope this helps people with weak machines mix with nebula. You heard it here first…………

Best wishes
Henry

Happy new year and more q-clone magic

NB: THIS POST WAS FOR A PROMO PERIOD THAT RAN OUT MANY MONTHS AGO. There are still some free samples to demo here.

Happy new year everyone and to start the year on a good note I thought I would surprise you with six new q-clone packages.About 2400 odd audio snapshots in total.
Enhance your investment with q-clone by adding these presets to your colour palette. The links are near the pictures at the bottom of the page.

The first is my colour suite.I have sampled lots of stuff in my studio and a studio I visited to make these babies. There is some Crazy good stuff here. Most of this is application driven whereas the rest are just settings snapshots with the odd application.Stuff I didn’t know q-clone could sample like short reverbs which adds a depth unlike anything I can describe.Check out the ‘odd stuff’ folder if you are into sound design.

Some will be useful to you in some situations and on others – walk on by.Remember there are no rules – guitar presets can work for vocals or synths etc.Experiment.As with all the previous samples I gave I suggest you add the files to a folder outside your Waves Q-clone folder as having them all in there slows it’s loading time.( only bummer is q-clone defaults to the last opened location ) The high end eq release is useful in the Waves folder in case you wish to add anything to your loaded preset like a cut/dip or boost.Overall however I suggest for you to use the open dialogue instead of the preset drop down menu.Up to you.

PLEASE note – there is a bug in Q-clone that sometimes has the volume go to either 12 dbs or -48 dbs.Just set the eq back to 0 and save it.Also because of this please make sure you trim your track input by maybe 10 – 15 dbs.You don’t want a nasty shock……………there are also some really loud presets so please take care when loading them.

Couple of suggestions………..
1st – suggest (again) to use the load ( open preset dialogue ) instead of downloading them into your q-clone presets folder. On windows set the open dialogue box to – right click – view – list. This will make all the presets visible.Dunno about mac.

2nd -obviously these are no good for tight notches and don’t work on everything so augment their use with your other eqs.An example may be that you like a preset but it is too bassy.Well simply use another eq to sort that out or remove resonance etc..

3rd – I suggest use these first in your chain on a track.Obviously the buss stuff is exempt but I find that with the tight kicks for example – if I compress after the Q-clone preset with a good compressor like CL 1B or sonnox dynamics,it sounds crazy good.

The rest are high end EQs.Enjoy… and let me know if these help you mix better.

Some more interesting Q-clone colours

PLEASE NOTE THAT I NOW HAVE A NEW SHOP FOR ALL MY PRESETS AND ANY OLD POSTS REFERRING TO MY OLD SHOP ARE NOW DEFUNCTAll my presets are now here

This here is a release that I have made from presets I have used and will use in my upcoming albums.
These are colour presets with the ability to really radically change the tone of your mixes so although some are subtle the colours are more on the side of tone shaping.

Demo of samples

If you haven’t already got my first preset pack go here to get a very nice high end eq indeed.

Q-clone IMHO is the best EQ in the world……oh and Nebula is even better………Anyway – I hope that you will enjoy this small library of mine.I have been saddened by the lack of q-clone libraries around the net and have decided to do something about it.I have been transferring some of the presets I have used in projects to presets I can share.

I have here assembled a set of presets that allow you to sculpt a mix easily and quickly to add colour. This in most cases is not your run of the mill set but one that can radically altar the tone of your instrument in many cases. It really is an adjunct to the tools you already own so you can shape the tone with q-clone and do any other surgical cuts and boosts as desired with a more precise tool.

Simply place the folder anywhere on your HDD and use the open function within q-clone.Personally,I wouldn’t add them to the waves folder as once the folder contains a lot of presets the drop down list becomes a pain.Trust me – I personally have more than 100 presets per folder!!!

I would advise that you add q-clone first in your effects bin and then add the rest of your signal path – but it’s up to you to go where the sound you desire leads.

This selection of presets is just a small sampling of over 2000 presets ( and growing ) of my passion for sampling analog gear.

I have access to great analog eq’s such as a Portico 5033,GML 2032,Mackie Onyx 1220 (Perkins EQ ),Millenia eqs,Pultec,High end digital eqs, and many other exotic eq’s at a nearby studio that allow me to build these presets.

More coming after Christmas 2009

Enjoy,God bless and have a good one.

Oh and do leave a comment on the blog if you like the stuff.

I may make the whole set available for purchase if I have the time to do so but that depends on demand – so if there is a demand for this then I will make the 2000 preset Library available as is but only if there is a demand. The library is about 350 MB right now and it may grow to a gig with all my additions to come.So let me know if it is feasible.

Q-clone presets in the pipe-line

All my presets are now here

Well I had a few days off this week and I spent about 30 hours creating tonnes of Q-clone presets .I have 1500 to date ranging from kicks to snares to bass – in fact I am trying to cover the bases of most requirements in a studio so I will be attempting to cover the spectrum of useful frequencies.
If I were to choose between Acustica audios Nebula and q-clone I would choose q-clone from a workflow perspective. It is faster, sounds as good has a tiny footprint, use so little CPU on my workstation and uses little ram as well. The problem is one needs access to high end eqs and these are not easy to come by.But Nebula has a vast library of these and they sound fantastic.
There are a lot of people who need to get a mix sounding great fast and the presets I am working on do just that. They sound amazing out of the box.

Anyway I have decided to make these presets available in the coming months for those who care and let me just say before I release anything – you will be blown away at what this plugin can do.It is not a one trick pony at all.In fact it can even sample subtle delays – yes you heard me.Don’t believe me? Well come back in a month or so and you will get them do demo.

I will also be making available a nice little neve box that I own.Amazing quality and the presets just shine. That’s for later though………..I may even have some available before Christmas.

I begin preliminary mixing on my next three albums soon.I reckon we are looking at a mid 2010 release for them.

Classical.

I also want to give a plug to a wonderful group of developers who are sampling gear to the highest standards.Support these guys as what they are doing is revolutionary.

Free Q-clone impulse responses – High end eq

All my presets are now here

NB THE FREE SAMPLES I GAVE AWAY WERE FOR A LIMITED TIME. I do have lots of free samples on the site so look around.

For those of you who own Waves Q-clone it is surprising that the web has few and far between impulses of high end gear.As a user of the plugin and also Acustica Audio’s nebula I will be sampling gear to make available for free over the next few months.I will get the ball rolling with this high end eq and I mean high end.It borders on being transparent and it is ubiquitous in most studios around the world.Of course I could only sample at certain settings otherwise I would be here all year so I went for what I felt were the most useful to me. It is made available to you sampled via Prismsound orpheus convertors with my own DIY high quality cables.Hope these are useful as well.Just unzip and place in the q-clone presets folder.
